Strengthening Laboratory Management Toward Accreditation (SLIPTA)
The World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO AFRO) established the SLIPTA program to systematically improve the quality of laboratory services across Africa. By providing a structured, stepwise framework, SLIPTA guides laboratories in strengthening their quality management systems to elevate patient care and successfully prepare for international accreditation.
The Role of Certified Auditors
At the heart of this initiative are SLIPTA Certified Auditors. These dedicated professionals objectively assess laboratory environments using the official SLIPTA checklist, pinpoint operational gaps, and deliver strategic recommendations for continuous improvement.
Becoming a SLIPTA Auditor
Managed by the African Society for Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) in coordination with Ministries of Health and global laboratory partners, the certification pathway is rigorous and competency-based:
- Rigorous Selection: Candidates must possess a proven background in laboratory systems, quality management, accreditation standards, or core laboratory operations.
- Intensive Classroom Instruction: Selected participants undergo an exhaustive training course blending theoretical foundations with practical, hands-on exercises.
- Field Evaluation: Following classroom completion, trainees must participate in at least two national or regional SLIPTA audits under the mentorship of an experienced Lead Auditor.
